Looks Like Haselrig an I are the only two humans in II.1 so far.

Here's to a long competitive rivalry between us.

Good luck all! So far from what I have seen I'm thinking 'Nova can stay out of relagation. But beyond that? Who knows.

I've got 6 guys to replace that are core players this year. Going to be tough going forward unless I have a really good recruiting class which doesn't appear to be likely.

Conference play starting again. While I think 'Nova is slightly better than last season, especially with the addition of some height. We'll still probably be a middle of the pack team.

Have fun and good luck!

Eight of ten non-conference games are on the road. Then 13 of first 15 conference games are on the road, including 8 in a row!!!!

The silver lining, I guess, is if I survive to the point where it matters, 13 of my final 15 are home games.

But seriously, 21 road games out of 25 total to start the season ... somebody hates me! LOL

There is a bug with the Tournament then because it is not showing Stanford or Tulsa as ranked teams. I'll report it.

That is not a bug.
The rankings represent the Rating of a team, which is a more long-term evaluation of a team. And I suppose, you're just looking at the RPI ranking of Division I, which just counts for the tournament seeding.

Thrilling overtime win versus Syracuse today! PF Tim Diamond nailed a buzzerbeating three pointer to tie the game and send it to overtime.

I'm still trying to figure out what my team will do this season. All-Conference PF Tim Diamond has been off to a slow start and JMJ has been consistently streaky. And with one season stop-gaps at C, and SF it seems the team is just not ready to be a contender yet.

Tough finish to the schedule for Indiana.

3 of their final 4 games are against the top schools in the conference standings.

Next up, the top two in the conference face each other:

#7 Indiana at #3 Vanderbilt
Indiana won the first meeting by 15.

Really weird game. http://onlinecollegebasketball.org/game/143808
Losing by only 4 to the team ranked #2 isn't too bad I suppose but I can't really be happy at only getting 9 minutes from my starting C. 11 minutes from my star man at SF. And two other starters not getting their normal minutes. Little surprise they all looked like they hadn't even had a game by the end.

I can't help but feel a little better discipline and the result could have been different.

Still; well done to the Kingsmen.

who's for real and who's not? Pretty tight start to conference play thanks to some tough seasons from East Bay and Utah St. Rochester has definitely been doing the best managerial job of the season so far.

You should push for head-to-head....just this once. Bigger question is which of those 3 teams, if any, will make it to the conference finals. The bloody chaos of the first day of the Legends conference playoffs gives us underachievers some hope

^^ Yeah I agree with that, lots of good Presidents. I have a preview for us all, how exciting!

Cal State Monterey Bay – Ready to win with 4 seniors & 4 juniors & also have the deepest squad in conference (12 over 120 SI). Possibly lack a bit of top end SI, and a weakness at SF? 7-0 on the punkska strengths vs weakness scoring system. Star: Sidney Jackson, 153 SI, 6'9 2 time all conference big man.

Texas State – 4 good seniors, should score well. Quite nice balance to squad, definitely not as good defensively as CSMB. Weakness: the defence, and a poor coach? 6-0 on the PSWS. Star: Matias Valdez, 170 SI 6'5, 7'0 wingspan PG.

UNLV – Good depth but wonder if lack good enough support outside of excellent star (0-0 PSWS – super unremarkable in either direction!). Star: Jackson Hurst, last year's II.1 Conference Player of the Year and All American, 178 SI 6'10 big man (19 ID, 16 IS, 20 IQ).

Oregon State – Strength: built to run and gun (speed, 3s, perimeter defence). SI overrates / SI in less useful places. Weakness: no outstanding scorer? 5-1 PSWS. Star: Devon Knox, 178 SI 5'10 guard.

Washburn – Good all-around, good depth (11 over 125 SI) SI underrates? Weakness: defence / ball handling. 3-2 PSWS. No clear star.

Loyola-Chicago – Top 5 by SI are under 6'4, with all team strengths & weakness basically explained by this. 3-2 PSWS. Star: Casey Clymer, 5'10 167 SI PG, 19 PA.

Temple – 2 good guards (but both slow). Weakness: bigs (ID and RB) 2-2 PSWS. Star: Arnold Ferguson, 172 SI 6'2 guard.

Hartford – Good stamina and squad balance/depth but kind've average. Weaknesses: IS, PA. 2-2 PSWS. Star: Frankie Wheeler, 6'2 162 SI SG.

Rochester – Another candidate for the run and gun offence. 2-3 on the PSWS. Star: Frank Crutchfield, 170 SI 6'4 “3 and D” wing

Arizona State – 2-4 PSWS. Lost 4 seniors and think you can tell. Still have a few good starters (Henderson, Martin) but are my first pick for relegation. No star.

Rhode Island – Have some ok bigs but lack guard skills (shooting, handling, passing). 1-3 PSWS. No star.

New Hampshire – Good IQ and stamina but 1-5 PSWS. Star: Melvin Harvey, 179 SI 2 time all-conference 6'2 SG

USC Upstate – Think will struggle to score efficiently, and struggle to defend inside – this doesn't seem a good combination. 0-4 PSWS. Star: Ivan Muniz, 190 SI 6'6 PG (18 JR, 18 PA, 18 IQ)

Florida Gulf Coast – In a rebuilding phase – only 10 scholarships and 6 of those SO or younger. 0-5 PSWS. Star: Raul Ortiz, 6'8 184 SI PF

Auburn – Our only bot team currently, can see it in the recruiting - have only 5 players over 110 SI (all over 125). 0-5 PSWS. No star.

I guess I need to preview my own team too eh?
Lincoln University PA - I've got good IS, but my bigs aren't too high on the SI overall. My top 9 are between 153 and 127 SI, so I lack top end but have an ok rotation. My big weakness is a PG, and possibly starting 2 weak defenders. 1-3 PSWS. I've decided Felix Quintanilla is my "star" even if he's not quite. A 153 SI 6'5 wing but may play some PG, lockdown defender and his shooting is developing quite nicely.

That's not an exact prediction by the way - it's more like the below.
1-2, Cal State and Texas State
3-10, everyone between UNLV and Rochester, plus myself. There's loads of parity I think.
11-14, the next 4.
15-16, Auburn and FGC.

Good luck and have fun :)

Absolutely agree with stinny, excellent work on your behalf punkska and GL to all. On a personal Washburn related note, we have never attempted to build stars but rather have attempted to create solid team play lineups primarily using 3 and 2 star players.

The overused injury targeting the game utilizes can create great strains on teams when the 'star' receives his injury reward for outstanding team contribution. Much less injury impact for a balanced, well rounded team with depth that has just lost 3 starters to injury.

Nice write up punkska!

Anyway, just a general question to no one in particular. Were there any recent changes to players gaining position experience? I've started a guy at SF for 10 straight games & he doesn't even have a lowercase SF designation yet? And he started at like .6 ... can't believe he didn't gain .4 position experience over those 10 games

Holy crap, what an ending to the conference championship. Foul on what I'm assuming was a half-court shot at the buzzer and then Texas State with 3 free throws to win the game.

Congratulations to Texas State!

Washburn Player Tod Adcock Suspended:

Senior Tod Adcock has been suspended from future Washburn athletic competition within the conference as the result of a publicly viewed shouting match with basketball Coach Larry Bradley.

Following Washburn final basketball game Washburn player Adcock loudly demanded to know why Coach Bradley continues to list him as a "rookie" center (c) rather than a "Journeyman" center(C). As a crowd grew from the verbal disruption, Adcock was heard loudly shouting at the coach he has nearly 8 hours playing "Center" in full game time competition in his 5 year career at Washburn. This was going to adversely affect his pro draft chances Adcock shouted.

When no response from Coach Bradley was forthcoming, Adcock became even more vocal with
the coach as security quickly moved in to remove the player from the court.

Yesterday the conference sports committee Chairman announced the conference has issued a all conference sports participation suspension against Adcock for his prior verbal outburst.

Somehow 3 posts about our league ended up in the II.2 thread - not sure if there's any mods about who can move them over?

A 2016 II.1 season preview/prediction:

Thanks to Naph who posted the above (lols at my Serbians breaking the name format though), it should be a good accompaniment to this preview, and nice to refer to for a different look at our squads.
As an overview of the league: I think it kind've breaks down into a top 2, with a gap to 3 who are fairly evenly matched, then a group of 4 mid table teams (could also compete with the 3 above them), 2 who'll try to avoid the last relegation spot, 4 who aren't awful but unfortunately I think will go, and then Tulane. Or visually:

Louisville, Temple
San Jose State, Missouri-Kansas City, Texas State
Simpson, Washburn, New York Uni, Lincoln Uni (me)
Texas-Arlington, UNLV
New Hampshire, Florida Gulf Coast, UNC-Asheville, Colorado
Tulane

Good luck to all in our attempts to jump a tier!

Players pre-season SIs: 5x 180+, 4x 170-179, 12x 160-169, 20x 150-159, another 20x 140-149

Louisville
History: 3 seasons in 1.1, only just relegated on points difference last year (13-17), 6 seasons in II.2 before that (never had a losing record)
My team rating: 4-0; Coach (offence-defence attribute): 13-17; Previous seasons in conference 2 and above: 9 (+2 in seasons 1 and 2, discounted for randomness/early game state)
Analysis: Louisville just look the class of the division to me, based on previous performance and the squad which is 9 deep without any clear weaknesses. Maybe there's no 1 player I'd say was excellent, but they have a very good PG (Keating), 3 bigs who are 6'9+ with skills in the right places, and enough players inbetween who'll run and make some shots. 4 of this top 8 still have 3 full seasons ahead of them too...scary.

Temple
History: 3rd successive season in 2.1, two 8th places so far, 2 seasons in 1.1 before this.
My team rating: 3-0 ; Coach: 10+,10+ (still new); Seasons in C2+: 5(+1)
Analysis: With their top 6 of over 150 SI, and 5 seniors this year I think they'll also make it back to 1.1. As the team who probably rate best from a scoring point of view, they can definitely compete for top spot, if their (slight?) lack of size doesn't hold them back. Ferguson and Vitale are the best starting guard combo in this conference.

San Jose State
History: Just relegated in their 2nd season in 1.1, 3 straight promotions before that.
My team rating: 3-1 ; Coach: 10-13 ; Seasons in C2+: 3
Analysis: Maybe the 3rd best team which is why I've put them 3rd? Sort've a bunch of weird players here – Davis looks like the PG but has better ID than PD, Roberts is the best inside defender, but can't score inside himself, Klein is both slow and small but has a solid skillset...Patton is good I think, needs to have more of an offensive role this year. Overall there should be enough talent to manage them to success vs different opposition, weird does not mean bad.

Missouri-Kansas City
History: Making their debut in conference 2, but based on history of being a good team for a long time it's a bit of a surprise. Just bad luck or other factors? Winner of the d3 tourney way back (during a 49-1 season!)
My team rating: 4-0 ; Coach: 12-7 ; Seasons in C2+: 0
Analysis: I think my rating system overrates M-KC actually (something else that needs work!), compared to Louisville and Temple, once we move past their 2 best players (by SI) players 3-9 are about 10 SI lower. Lucas Morgan has an intriguing mix of physicals and shooting ability – who can guard him?

Texas State
History: This is their 3rd season in 2.1, 5th then 6th previously.
My team rating: 3-0 ; Coach: 6-9; Seasons in C2+: 2
Analysis: A pretty well balanced top 7 skill, size and positionally, but I think lack the top end talent to compete for promotion really. Give them 2 seasons though...Nice set of young talent. Still need a new coach for me (sorry Tough ;) )

Simpson
History: Another ex d3 tourney winner. Also once got to 1.1, followed by 2 consecutive relegations, then spent 2 seasons in d3 (also missed out on the conference 6 to conference 1 path in 5 seasons by just PD! Unlucky lostraven)
My team rating: 3-2 ; Coach: 18-9 ; Seasons in C2+: 4
Analysis: Clearly a good manager/president (what do we call ourselves?), a good coach, some decent players too but it's the first team where it's easier to spot clear weak points also.

New York Uni
History: Winner of III.2 last season, making their debut in conference 2.
My team rating: 4-2 ; Coach: 14-15 ; Seasons in C2+: 0
Analysis: Is Romano the best SG in the division? If he plays PG how much worse does that make him? Gallegos is the only (good) 7ft+ big too, two nice weapons to own! (or coach at least...). Players #5 to end of rotation are quite weak though.

Washburn
History: 6 seasons in row with a positive W/L record,
My team rating: 3-3 ; Coach: 17-16 ; Seasons in C2+: 3
Analysis: 4 of their top 6 by SI are guards, and I think they lack a bit of size. Might be the best passing team in the conference though...One of the best coaches, and a good manager so I wouldn't be too surprised to see them jump up to 3rd.

Lincoln University PA
History: I finished midtable (7th, 16-14) last season, I'm expecting about the same.
My team rating: 2-2 ; Coach: 16-11 ; Seasons in C2+: 3
Analysis: What am I this year? A bit underpowered in the front court, but very Montenegran. I think half my team lacks positional clarity which makes my life hard / I'll switch players around somewhat. I've got no-one shorter than 6'4 so that's a positive?

Texas-Arlington
History: 2 straight promotions so on a hot streak.
My team rating: 1-2 ; Coach: 13-12 ; Seasons in C2+: 1
Analysis: Only 1 senior and 5 freshman, so their best years are in the future. Definitely a pretty solid roster overall, its just the lack of pure talent this year that worry me - 1 player over 145 SI, whereas everyone above (and UNLV below) have at least 3.

UNLV
History: The 2.1 veterans, entering their 7th straight season in 2.1!
My team rating: 2-4 ; Coach: 9-13 ; Seasons in C2+: 9 (+3)
Analysis: They have good depth elsewhere, but their 1 player over 110SI and over 6'6 is a freshman. With a weakness this obvious can they stay up for an 8th season? (maybe actually, as I don't think there's too many dominant bigs around this year)

New Hampshire
History: 2nd season in 2.1, 2 straight promotions before that.
My team rating: 0-6 ; Coach: 14-10 ; Seasons in C2+: 1
Analysis: Well this is the point the team quality really drops off...New Hampshire might be the best of the 5 I'm picking for relegation though. Two players over 150 SI, and the best 2 big men also, but it's hard to find anything they excel in.

Florida Gulf Coast
History: 3rd consecutive seasons in 2.1
My team rating: 0-6 ; Coach: 14-11 ; Seasons in C2+: 5
Analysis: Hmm, ignore that last review – I think FGC will finish above New Hampshire :D Hicks is a proper (and oversized) PG, Hayden is a proper C. Given those may be the 2 most important positions, and FGC have more overall experience I'm bumping FGC up a spot. This team is also pretty young, 2 seniors and only 1 junior. If they do go down there's a good chance they come back up at some point...Carmona :O I wonder how the teams compare regarding high potential / high star players actually (a job for someone else, I'm not doing that too...)

UNC-Asheville
History: 2 straight promotions
My team rating: 0-7 ; Coach: 15-19 ; Seasons in C2+: 0
Analysis: The team has the newest manager (except Tulane) - in only their 3rd season. The 2 promotions will largely have been based on their old manager's team / good recruiting, so this might be the first real test? Beastinbulls has been busy recruiting in the past few seasons, but you can see the missing season or two in the roster. This could be the first season of losing before coming back up eventually with the new youngsters who do have a lot of potential.

Colorado
History: Just relegated from 1.1, in the season before came 2nd in this conference. 2 promotions before that.
My team rating: 1-7 ; Coach: 12-3 ; Seasons in C2+: 2
Analysis: Well Colorado just hate sticking in the same division for more than 1 season! It could be a smart strategy, if we got draft picks to compensate for being bad...Onto the actual roster, well Love is definitely the best player in this tier of teams, but he's the only Junior, and there are no seniors. Even younger than some of the other teams I've called young...Cordero :O that means our conference has the top 2 international recruits of 2015.

Tulane
History: 2 promotions in a row
My team rating: 0-10 ; Coach: 10-20 ; Seasons in C2+: 0
Analysis: Well Tulane once had a manager who knew what they were doing, but since then it seems they've had a succesion of managers who havent stuck around. The new one isn't an exception...I can see some appeal in building a team from scratch, but it's not an easy task. They currently have 1 SR scholar, and 1 FR. Kellogg is very good, but this should be 2 easy wins for all of us, and a 0-30 season for Tulane.

Punkska,

Thanks for the great preview of some top teams in our conference. It's my first time in this higher level and I hope to stay for a bit. After reading your thoughts I decided to move Romano to SG and put Mills at PG (he has more intelligence) even though Romano was all-American PG last year. Mills is trash at defense and I thought it would be wise to put Romano there to slow down the opposition, but he did turn it over quite a bit. I'm hoping that Hayward can surprise some people at PF and help my team to have a solid top three players. I did have a few weak recruiting classes and will suffer some depth issues as a result. It'll be a tough season but should be fun.

Punkska,

What is the "my team rating" mean and how is it calculated?

It's a good question. I might've explained it last season, but maybe I didn't, and with HW having a change of over half the conference each season no harm doing it again...

I look at each team, then note down the top 4 individual scores in each of 10 of the player skills, ignoring anyone I don't think will play (of the 14 skills I currently ignore finishing, stamina, IQ and driving - driving I should've included this year but realised over halfway through and wasn't going back...)
So for my team I'd note down 13 12 12 12 for my "IS" score, 16 15 15 13 for my OS...then at the end I compare each team against each other.

It's not very scientific (I don't give an exact top 3/4/whatever in each skill a positive mark - it really depends if I can see any distinction between good/average/bad for each)
For example "Rng" has 2 "good", 3 "bad", everyone else in the middle this year. Speed has 7 "good", and only 1 "bad".

It takes a bit of manual data logging, but apparently I enjoy it, and it's somewhat useful to myself when planning tactics for each team.

Xlnt team reporting and thanks from the Texas-Arlington group.
We unexpectedly promoted here from last season with a group of talented SR that have now moved on. One SR this season along with underclassmen who will need to greatly improve for Texas-Arlington to even remain in this talented division. Will do our best to hold a mid pack position and hope for improvement.

My post above now updated with all teams previewed/analysed.

My non-conference games up and down early on, I'm lucky to be 3-0 still with a 1 point win yesterday, but today we won by 51! More of the latter please.

Thank you so much for your hindsight but lets see lol, i feel the first promotion was indeed because i inherited a team with just one lost at the time, but last season i beat NYU twice while they were ranked lol that was all me, but im eager to see, since i clearly got no good players this season, i am still planning to spoil a few games

Good luck to all

PS: you probably right about me relegating but i will give it a shot

3 games in, a few surprises at the top of the standings, but my team is performing pretty much as expected, i might end up winning just 2 games against Tulane lol

Haha, wow @ that loss El jefe. You had strong players at PG so it wasn't that. Or that it was only Kellogg scoring, the rest of their players were efficient too...

So 1/6th of the way through the season, a way too early analysis that game aside: Neither Louisville or Temple look like the runaway leaders I thought they might be. Simpson have won every game by 16+ but have only played 1 of my predicted top 5 so far. New Hampshire the biggest overperformer so far, 3 good wins to start the season. M-KC had a good win at San Jose, but have lost a few close-ish ones. They'll look fine if they win either of the next 2 home games though. The rest sort've un-remarkable or close enough to going as predicted?

I'm happy with my 4-1 start, but all 5 have gone as expected really. Without 2 starters away at Washburn tomorrow will be a struggle...Long way to go!

Halfway point in the season and based on punkska's write-up, New Hampshire takes the cake as the biggest positive surprise of the season so far. Brunner really tearing things up and putting the team on his back.

Oscar has finally earned the right to a nickname. I’ll get on it. NYU is right there for a promotion but played nearly every game in the first half of conference play at home. Lots of injuries so far. Hopefully we can stay healthy for the second half.

2nd most foul-outs in team history (behind last season) and we've still got 12 conference games to go....so on pace to shatter that record! Might be time to give the walk-ons a chance to make some memories

Looking like 21 wins will guarantee a promo this season with a strong possibility that 20 does the trick given all the give-and-take going on in the middle of the pack. Also, I'm thinking 16 wins will result in relegation (probably through a tiebreak) which is very unusual....I can't imagine Louisville continuing to have such bad luck in close games

8 (9?) team race for the last 2 promotion spots with 6 games to go! It's going to be a heckuva finish to the season.

I'm assuming this league board is crickets because everyone is on edge and doing additional scouting

I didn't expect to be doing this well. That said, there sure is a lot of knotted up teams from 2 to 9. Best of fortunes the rest of the way.

No significant separation with 5 games to go. Surprising loss by Texas State, although FGCU has exceeded expectations all year so why stop now!

And Simpson putting up 140 points in regulation; that's nuts

Yeah, I was watching the Simpson game and gave up after about 10 minutes of game time. It was pretty obvious that they were unstoppable.

I don't want to promote and yes team winning games I definitely shouldn't be, but I have been playing with different game tactics which seem to be working or its probably just luck. Don't worry pschwartz I usually don't get the recruits I really want. What a great race. 10 teams that can either promote or demote. pretty crazy

Why wouldn't you want to promote???

By the way, Tulane's got a nice recruiting class for a bot team. If anyone else wants to lose to them this season to spare me the shame, feel free

With 2 games to go, looking like San Jose will get one of the promo spots. I'm inclined to say MKC for the other one, but feel like Washburn/Texas State winner has just as good a shot to sneak in there.

New Hampshire has two tough games and I think TX Arlington pulls out the 2nd of those....still a strong chance for 19 wins and the tiebreaker.

Don't even know why I'm bothering projecting FGCU given their great management all year, but schedule seems too tough.

Likewise, think my schedule is too tough with Simpson at their place and then Lincoln.

Lincoln could surprise but the point differential is too low for a 19 win tiebreaker.

A lot of good matchups though so really, who knows!

88-87 Simpson over Temple. Tough loss, El Jefe. Your three-point game looked like mine in the prior two games I had: abysmal. Really close, though. Feels like Simpson has been running on fumes these last three games or so. (Not a complaint, just an observation.) Have always wondered about long-term fatigue.

Total collapse the last 11:30. Went about 6-23 with 6 TO; you went about 14-27 with 2 TO.
Basically, the complete opposite of the first 29:30. All too common with these fellas - wondering if it's the coaching skills or game tactics and motivation.....or maybe just user error!

I agree El Jefe. If this was RL(and I know it isn't) and we were the Big10,ACC, or SEC we probably would have 8 or 9 teams in the tournament. The 4 that got in just have to prove it for us. The problem is we beat up on each other all season long. Louisville winning just shows how close evrybody was to each other.

I don't know - your RPIs are not that great. Only 1 team (Simpson) has an RPI in the top 50. All other conferences in Division 1 except IV.6 has more than 1 team in the top 50.

My RPI is higher than Texas State and MKC who made it :( but I guess league position takes precedent - and I should've won 1 or 2 more! (or not lost multiple games by 30+ points) and if PD is a factor there's teams with a better case then me there. Ah well...

GG today Louisville, can't help but think I threw it away given the way it went - but you were a man down too which is always unfortunate in key games, did well to overcome that.

I'm just disappointed it was my last game with this group I guess! 2nd half of the season I really started to like them and I wasn't ready for this to be their last game.

You only have 3 seniors, punkska - don't get too nostalgic!

I'll be saying good riddance to most of my Seniors. 4 year tourney drought, although they did keep me in League II so I shouldn't be too harsh on them. Next season is going to be tough for me to stay up, but I'm hoping for some big things in few seasons.

Good showing in round 1 by our conference! Definitely proved we deserved more teams than II.2.

For round 2:
- MKC has an unfortunate matchup; KSU will probably wipe the floor with them.
- Louisville has an interesting matchup with contrasting styles. WMU looks like they like to slow the pace against Lousivlle's run and gun pressure defense. I like Louisville there
- Simpson/UCLA should be a battle. Might slightly lean towards UCLA as I imagine they'll pound Simpson inside, but Simpson is such a good three point shooting team they could also win by 20.

Good luck all!

I was pretty upset, probably one of the few times I've been honestly upset about a loss in this game. I put a lot of effort into game planning for Marquette. Roberts really crapped the bed on that game. All well...

So where is my season preview? Honestly, I've done my usual scouting and got some data, etc, but trying to split this league into tiers and ranking them is really really tough this season. There's a lot of parity, and mostly where one team has strengths in one area, they have weaknesses in another.

My best attempt at tiers is below, few words for each team too. Teams not ranked if in the same tier (apologies for the cop out!):
1, San Jose State.
2-7, IU Purdue-Indy, Richmond, Lincoln Uni, Utah State, Prairie View A&M, Evansville.
8-14, Temple, Washburn, Florida Gulf Coast, New York Uni, Cal State M B, Arizona State, Vanderbilt
15-16, New Hampshire, Marquette

SJS have the highest SI player in the division, and also great depth. My only concern might be their tallest player is 6'8 (ignoring my concern at predicting Louisville win last season and them ending up relegated! That said Louisville did finish 3rd in PD and had a good playoff / tourney, so I didn't misjudge their talent as such...)

IU Purdue have a great top 5 (though only 1 is over 6'4) and an ok 6th man, but no depth beyond that. So it's a talent vs depth issue.

Richmond have the best IS in the division (probably the best skill to have), have good depth but maybe lack some other skills and top end SI.

Utah State have a nicely balanced top 8 and have few notable strength or weaknesses, just solid.

Prairie View - they appear to be going bot but have a nice top 7 players, potentially weak defensively.

Evansville are deep, balanced and good but might lack an exceptional player or two to separate them from the pack.

Lincoln - eh, I've got a good 9 and should be able to score, but can I defend, and can I work out the best rotation / depth chart from the weird selection of forwards / lack of true bigs?

Temple - have good IS so should be enough to cover their weaknesses, but my comment on spreadsheet says "bit dodgy, might struggle" which I think is related to weird player builds / lack of players who clearly fit each position.

Washburn - good from an SI/TPI point of view, but their top 5 are all under 6'4, and only have 1 usable big man.

Florida G C - don't rate well on my scoring system but they always do better than I expect (respect to president Wine13) so I'm not underestimating them anymore.

NYU - they're ok but nothing special, may struggle defensively.

Cal State - fine, but might struggle with a lack of good guard play this year?

Arizona State - I have their top 6 listed as either forwards or wings, which leads me to think they lack decent guards, and decent true bigs. That doesn't seem like a recipe to do well to me, but they're not without talent.

Vanderbilt - Only really 6 players deep this year, might struggle but very experienced president, and a good coach so I can't pick them for outright relegation.

New Hampshire - they're fine, and pretty balanced just lack enough talent compared to everyone else.

Marquette - see New Hampshire. Have one excellent player, but less depth and talent behind him than NH.

It's gonna be tough, there's no walkovers here. I won't be at all surprised if it's super close and promotion / relegation both come down to the last game again.

My team was offended you said there are no walkovers and are trying their best to prove you wrong.

Looks to be a good race at the top of the conference. I'll do my best to figure out why my team can't score....no promises though

Biggest surprise for me is IUPUI struggling. I know their depth is an issue but I thought those elite starting 5 would make them a clearer cut above the middle of the pack. Still some time though. At mid season, I think San Jose will end up taking the conference

San Jose State is too small though (PF is only 6'4, C is 6'7).

I think Evansville takes it because of home/away splits. They only had 4 home games in the first half but have 11 in the second half. 2 of their losses were close on the road so those will probably flip to wins. I think Lincoln takes second and 3rd comes down to Richmond and San Jose State. I had 10 home games first half so my record is pretty inflated right now.

If teams can figure out how to exploit that - hasn't seemed to bite him much so far. Just saw his SG is out for the next 6-7 games so that throws a wrench in my prediction.

Unfortunately, I think this will be another year of low tournament selections for the conference. All LL3 conferences have more teams in the tournament right now than II.1 and our highest RPI team is Evansville at 40. Amazingly, only IV.7 has their highest team with a lower RPI (Miami at 44). At the end of the day I wouldn't be surprised if we only got 2 teams in.

Yeah, the schedule is very conducive to a lot of give-and-take over the remainder of the season so will probably be another year where the 10th place team is around 15-15. Coupled with FGCU playing great the last 11 games, and might be another season where 19 wins gets you promoted. That's not going to be great for tournament selections. Maybe the script will be flipped from last season and a few teams will get really cold (which is my only hope to avoid relegation at this point) while our top 5 mow through their remaining schedule.

There must have been something wrong with Temple because how the hell did I beat them 120-62 the other night and was up 77 to 19 at the half. You heard me right up SEVENTY SEVEN to NINETEEN at the half of a game in the 2nd to top league. I guess this is just the game making up for me the fact that Temple went 3-0 vs my team in 2013 season despite my team being 17-13 in conference and Jefes 13-17. Anyways this is so weird consider my team is just average in conference this season and will likely miss the National Tournament for just the 4th time in 17 seasons and the first time ever back to back. Anyways go Dores

6 teams within a game now with 5 to go :O (we're not interesting? pffft). I'll do my best to put up a preview of the top 6 remaining games and a prediction later.

I turned a 23 point away loss into a 36 point home win today - there is something in the home vs away difference being strong this season.

End of season preview 2016! Inspired by the podcast boys we have home vs away splits, and average opponent RPIs listed after the team names:

Washburn (1-4), 0.5354
Evansville (5-0), 0.5476
IU Purdue-Indy (2-3), 0.5106
San Jose State (2-3), 0.5302
Richmond (1-4), 0.5408
Lincoln Uni PA (1-4), 0.5486

The top 3 are 1 game clear of 4th - 6th currently.

Washburn: first up is Vandy away who have a very strong RPI actually, Washburn won the first matchup by 66(!) though so Washburn win this and their next 3, then play the final game away vs myself (Lincoln).

Evansville: all 5 at home is a significant advantage, but they still play 3 of the top 6 which is the most of anyone in the promotion race, and also Utah State who are just as strong. 4-1 might get them promotion but would mean winning 3 of the 4 tough ones.

IUP-I: have the easiest remaining schedule by a decent margin, I believe they should win their next 4 (though lost to Richmond by 26 previously), then the final game is away at Evansville.

San Jose State: not the easiest schedule. If I had to guess they win 3 or 4. Do have the best PD of the 6 so might sneak 3rd based on this.

Richmond: I think need to win 4 to stay in contention, they only won 3 of these 5 in the reverse fixtures and this time have just 1 at home, seems unlikely.

Lincoln: Before analyzing this I was confident I might sneak 3rd as I'm in good form currently, but my next 4 are away and final game is at current top team Washburn. If I lose today at Evansville I'm probably the first team out. I haven't been good away so far...me and Richmond probably finish 5th and 6th in some order.

Bold prediction: I'm sticking to being confident, haha - So I win all 5 and finish on 21 wins. San Jose also win out and finish on 21, with a better PD, taking 1st place. Washburn win their 4 who aren't vs me to finish on 21 and take either 2nd or 3rd. Evansville and IUPI both finish on 20 wins, with Richmond on 19.

Evansville has to be frustrated - 2 games they won on the road they then lose at home. That's the difference between 6th and 1st for them.

But they do get to recruit in Indiana so I don't feel to bad...

Teams ordered by TPI. Best guess of each team's starting 5 listed first. Let me know if you are definitely red-shirting someone and I can try and factor that in.

Still kind of pinching myself being in a conference with so many names I saw at or near the top when I first joined the game. Really looking forward to the season.

== 5 Star Recruits ==

112/13 (SIMPSO 5* HS SR 6' ½" SG pg sf) Neal Madsen
Recruiting Evaluation: Above average post moves. Could be an above average shooter. Can be a decent rebounder. Can be a smart player. Can be a really good ball handler. Will be quick as lightning. Good all-around player. Projected Height: 6' 6".
Naph: SG/SF prospect, expect him to be an athlete more than a skill guy. Will be a menace in transition with elite speed and finishing.

112/13 (USU 5* HS SR 6' PG SG) Shawn Sands
Recruiting Evaluation: Could really be a long-range shooter. Can never be a good rebounder. Can be a great all-around defensive player. Can be a decent ball handler. Can be a speedy player. Will flourish in a fast pace offense. Projected Height: 6' 2".
Naph: You'll have to respect him outside, and that's going to open up his driving game. Potential lock-down defensive guard.

== 4 Star Recruits ==

119/12 (IONA 4* HS SR 6' 5" C SF pf) Linsey Phillips
Recruiting Evaluation: Could be a good shooter. Can be a really smart player. Can be a good all-around defensive player. Can be a skilled passer. Good all-around player. Has no preference to play close to home. Projected Height: 6' 9".
Naph: Well rounded combo forward that will play both ends. Will arrive ready to contribute.

113/12 (RICH 4* HS SR 6' 5½" C SF pf) Reggie Louis
Recruiting Evaluation: Could be an above average shooter. Can be a monster on the boards. Can be a really smart player. Will be a below average ball handler. Projected Height: 6' 7".
Naph: Rebounding forward with a well rounded offensive game. Needs some seasoning defensively.

103/13 (GVSU 4* HS SR 6' 3" PF pg sg) Jonathan Bell
Recruiting Evaluation: Does not have much of a shooting touch. Can be a decent rebounder. Can be a really smart player. Can be a great all-around defensive player. Can be a skilled passer with exceptional court vision. Can be a really good ball handler. Can be a speedy player. Excellent all-around player. Projected Height: 6' 7".
Naph: Non-scoring, glue-guy that should be able to play 1-3, maybe even some 4. Potentially elite playmaker, that may end up a tall PG.

== 3 Star Recruits ==

100/12 (SIMPSO 3* HS SR 6' 1½" SF sg pf) Mickey Garland
Recruiting Evaluation: Could be a dominating post player. Could be an excellent shooter. Can be a smart player. Can be a good all-around defensive player. Can be a decent ball handler. Will be very quick. Excellent all-around player. Projected Height: 6' 9".
Naph: Late bloomer, should be an elite scoring and solid defending 3/4

90/12 (FGCU 3* HS SR 6' 11½" C pf) Leo Sisk
Recruiting Evaluation: Could be a good post player. Could be a good shooter. Could really be a long-range shooter. Can be a smart player. Will never be a good perimeter defender. Will be a below average ball handler. Can be a speedy player. Projected Height: 6' 10".
Naph: Good offensive post, average in many areas, not showing much instinct to share the ball.

89/12 (USU 3* HS SR 6' 1" SF sg pf c) Earl Gibson
Recruiting Evaluation: Could be a good shooter. Can be a great all-around defensive player. Can be a skilled passer. Will be a below average ball handler. Projected Height: 6' 4".
Naph: Defense first off guard, with some shooting, finishing and playmaking skills.

84/13 (SJSU 3* HS SR 6' 3" SF pg) Thaddeus Walker
Recruiting Evaluation: Could be a good post player. Could be a good shooter. Can be a great all-around defensive player. Can be a skilled passer. Can be a really good ball handler. Will be quick as lightning. Will struggle in a fast pace offense. Excellent all-around player. Isn't much of a student and may not qualify academically. Projected Height: 6' 6".
Naph: Underdeveloped, but high ceiling PG prospect.

84/12 (STBRK 3* HS SR 6' 2" PF SF c) Daniel Crouse
Recruiting Evaluation: Above average post moves. Could be an excellent shooter. Can be a monster on the boards. Can be prone to a lot of mental mistakes. Can be a good all-around defensive player. Will be a below average ball handler. Will always be a bit sluggish. Will struggle in a fast pace offense. Projected Height: 6' 5".
Naph: Everything but range on offense, elite rebounder and solid defender. Speed and IQ both problematic. SF, maybe undersized PF. Probably tops out as a bench contributor.

NYU should romp away with the title. They have all the pieces, probably end the season with 8 players at 150 or above, and are headlined by a 174 SI SF. Frontcourt is 6'10" - 7' They have all the pieces.

Rochester probably 2nd. Texas Arlington and San Jose State are the next most skilled teams but both are lacking size. Cal State M-Bay may well be close enough in skill with enough size to overcome them, but they have 5 seniors and may not develop as quick as other teams. FGCU have some up and coming stars and a stud C but no depth at all. Shouldn't discount returning finalists Richmond and Marist either, though they each lost some key pieces.

SMC just hoping to survive I suspect. USU and Simpson both look to have starting 5's that average 10 less SI than anyone else in the conference. That's going to be hard to overcome.

Commentary
The conference has really stratified so far this year. You have the top 5, who are all ranked teams. Though you could perhaps argue FGCU are dropping back to the next tier. The next 4 are safely mid-table. Then you have the bottom 7 who are duking it out for 1 spot above the relegation line.

Scheduling quirks in the 2nd half:
NYU play 10 road games.
CSMB play 9 home games.
Marist play 9 road games, including the last 6 straight.
FGCU play 9 home games, including the last 6 straight.
Saint Leo play 9 road games.
Rochester play 12 road games.
UTA play 9 home games.
SMC play 10 home games.
Butler play 11 home games. They also had their starting C miss 8 games so far and their starting PF is about to miss his 6th.
Bentley play 9 home games.
Simpson play 10 road games.
EIU play 9 road games.
USU play 9 home games.

First half has been lucky (6-1 in OT/close games) and unlucky (Burt injury cost me 2 games).

NYU is really good but I think Steve and his gang of 2*s will win the conference because of H/A splits. I guess it will come down to Marist, FGCU, and me for that coveted 3rd spot. Really didn't expect to be in this position at the start of the season.

Steve,

I love this game and think you built something really incredible. But that doesn't mean I am giving you a free pass tomorrow so you better bring it if you want to make it into Legends.

Well Saint Leo enjoyed our short stay in II.1. As I predicted we struggled to hang on. Our hot start to the season had my hopes up but we folded like a cheap suit the second half of conference play. I hope we can get back soon.

Good season top-to-near-the-bottom in II.1. Not often you see 3 teams that are at least 13-17 demote in a conference. I feel very fortunate to come out with the Conference Title with how many hard fought games there were this season! Good luck to everyone next season
