Press Releases:

Dec 05 2024: New Era for the Yellow Jackets - by Jhavoc03 on March 31st, 2022

The Yellow Jackets are now being led by Barney Seymour. The Jackets have decided to fire their long time coach, Jeff Cobb. Cobb the most winningest coach in Defiance history has been let go due to poor performance over the last few years. Jonah Haug, the new President of Basketball Operations was asked if he had planned on keeping Cobb for the rest of the season or for the foreseeable future, he said: "When I took over I didn't want to change things up right away. I wanted to get my bearings and see how the team would respond". Cobb who was known as recruiter more than a team builder will be go down as the best coach in Yellow Jacket history as of now.

The new hire, Barney Seymour was brought in after years of success at Winthrop but stepped away from coaching for two years due to his half sister's inoperable brain tumor. He is now back and ready to lead Defiance to building a successful program. He is known for his ability to build players and a great tactics coach. Haug was asked why Barney and he responded.

" What excites me about Coach Seymour is his ability to teach the guys the X's and O's. As well as develop players. When you are a small school like we are you need to be able to build young talent in order to be successful and then recruit better players in the future. You have to start and build with what you have"

Seymour who has a proven history of devolpoing players is eager to get started "I want to show these guys the right way to play. We are going to get straight to work and we will improve in every aspect"

Haug knows its can take some time "I have given Seymour this opportunity knowing it wont happen over night. It will take a few seasons to build up this program and during that time we are going to give Coach Seymour everything he needs to be successful."

The Yellow Jackets are currently 3-10 on the season and have lost 4 in a row. Coach Seymour has his work cut out for him but only time will tell if Defiance can build a respectable program.
