Feb 19 2033: Prez Says “Goodbye, Firebirds” - by cal_DMV on July 14th, 2023

WASHINGTON, DC

After 19 seasons at UDC, President Cal is stepping down as athletic director. He led the team from the very bottom of VI.23 all the way to LL2. Many players have come and gone under his watch, including Tre Sowell, Harvey Baron, and former All-American Ed Dang.

Aug 28 2031: LIGHT THE BEAM!!! Sowell to Sac-Town! - by cal_DMV on April 7th, 2023

Tre Sowell gets buckets. Now, he also lights beams.

After a sensational four seasons with the Firebirds, the Baltimore bucket-getter will be taking his talents to Sacramento.

According to league insider Shams Chardwoodia, an undisclosed injury late in the season may be cause for concern. Sowell reportedly did not practice with the team for the last month of the season, and was a DNP for several of their invitational games. Also, while it is not uncommon for top recruits to skip the Combine, Sowell has still not reported in for his official league physical. Kings fans will be anxious to see if his health holds up.

Sowell finishes as UDC's all-time leading scorer and a two time CPOTY. Selected with the 3rd overall pick, he joins fellow Marylander Mario Lea, a former Navy Midshipmen who was taken by Sacramento last season.

Jun 25 2030: Conference Player of the Year?? Daa- I mean- Sowell!!! - by cal_DMV on February 10th, 2023

WASHINGTON, D.C.

Tre Sowell gets buckets.

The Baltimore native averaged 23.7 ppg on 47/42/87 shooting, leading the UDC Firebirds to 2nd in the III.3 conference. On a bad night, he'll get you at least 15 points.
Assuming, that is, he's not in foul trouble -- he holds the team record for personal fouls per game, and the record for disqualifications in a single season (12). It got so bad, they started to call him Tre Foul.

Fortunately, the 6'1" PG has been more buckets and less benchings this season. This was enough to earn him Conference Player of the Year honors.

Apr 03 2028: All-American?? Daaaaaang... - by cal_DMV on October 20th, 2022

If you look at just the numbers, you might not notice any improvement in Ed Dang's stat line. FG% stayed roughly the same, a bit more efficient from the line, less points per game, slightly better defensively...

But basketball is more than just a game of numbers. Sometimes, a player's impact shows up more in the wins column than in the personal stats. That was what happened this year. With Dang at the helm, the Firebirds finished 1st in a star-studded III.3 conference. For his efforts, he is honored not only as a member of the All-Conference team, but as UDC's first All-American.
