Press Releases:

Jan 16 2038: Friars 20th Win Costly - by wreck on April 8th, 2024

(Providence R.I.) The Friars have been the most surprising team in VI29 all season long. Only yesterday they were placed on the tournament board as a 2 seed. After 25 years in Division 3 this team was finally beginning to believe that promotion to Division 2 was a possibility. That dream received a crushing blow today with injuries to leading scorer James Foss and prime defender Martin Pineda. Both will miss the next 5 to 6 games. Providence- a misnomer if there ever was one. Ugly is about to return.

Dec 10 2037: Friars 5-0 - by wreck on March 28th, 2024

(Providence R.I.) Five road games to open conference play. Five wins. Are we to take the Friars seriously? Are they contenders? That is largely an unknown at this early juncture. This team is young and unproven. One thing going for them is they are learning how to win. For nearly any other Dlll program in Hardwood going 12-3 to start a season would not be a story- yet- this is Providence- a dumpster fire for nearly 20 years. Have an extinguisher handy- they may need one.

Nov 18 2037: 6 GAMES ON THE ROAD… - by wreck on March 22nd, 2024

(Providence R.I.) The press office at Providence College finally got around to releasing an introductory statement regarding their new head coach B. J. Hampton.
Formerly an assistant at Wisconsin-Parkside, Hampton has been at the helm nearly 6 weeks and in that time has brought the Friars to the cusp of mediocrity fashioning a 7 and 2 mark in their first 9 games. A win in their next game would be a non-conference all-time record for this program. With 6 road games looming ahead of them Providence has an uphill battle to stay relevant.

Oct 21 2037: Friars Escape Bottom 10 - by wreck on March 14th, 2024

(Providence R.I.) The Friars are no longer ranked among the bottom 10 teams in Hardwood. Their overall position is at its’ highest point in over 16 seasons, resting at #997 out of 1008 teams. The alumni are still squabbling about the budget and have cut expenses to the bone. In today’s victory over St. Francis center Duane Williams was seen sporting black hightop Chuck Taylor’s- footwear not seen on a court in nearly 60 years.

Nov 29 2036: 1001 A Hardwoods Odyssey - by wreck on January 29th, 2024

With their 63-62 victory today the Friars climbed in the overall rankings to their highest spot in 9 years- #1001. Head coach Keandre Richardson was unimpressed with this. In a statement after the game Richardson was quoted as saying- “this team is playing over their heads right now. We still stink”.
With 7 wins on the season Providence appears to be much improved- yet Richardson is correct- Their goal of 16 overall wins will take a miracle.
