admin Joined: 01/24/2017 Posts: 2522 Hardwood Administrator ![]() | So I've been looking at PPP (Points Per Possession), but it seems like there are two formulas: Most Common: Pts / (FGAt + 0.44 × FTAt + TO) One that takes into account Offensive Rebounds: PPP = Pts / (FGAt + 0.44 × FTAt – OREBt + TO) Anyone have any knowledge or opinions on this? This is how he calculates number of possessions which is close to your second calculation: Possessions = FGA-OR+TO+.475*FTA https://kenpom.com/blog/ratings-glossary/ He uses .475 instead of .44 for FTs based on historical data in college basketball but either one would be fine. |

I don't see why one should include Offensive Rebounds (for PPP) and not something else like Steals. Not sure what should be the FTA factor. I guess I need to read some more about it. Steve |

For teams it makes sense to subtract it out because an offensive rebound is not another possession since it technically was never lost. I guess the problem is that the calculation needs to be the same for the individual and the team. |
